We want to help you and your family stay healthy. Our health education programs and services listed below are here to help you:

Health Classes

Care1st offers health classes in San Diego. Come to a class to learn more about healthy eating, diabetes, and more. If you are interested in a class, call (619) 719-4519.

Health Coaching

Do you want help setting a health goal and sticking to it? Sign up for one-on-one health coaching over the phone with a San Diego Health Educator by calling (619) 719-4519.

First Health Checkup with Your Doctor

Make an appointment with your doctor for your first health checkup as soon as possible when you become a Care1st member. Getting a full physical will help your doctor get to know you better so they can help you when you get sick. At your appointment, your doctor will ask you to answer a questionnaire called the "Staying Healthy Assessment." It will help your doctor provide you with complete care.

Living Well Information Line

Health information is a phone call away. Call our Living Well Information Line to ask questions about weight, exercise, healthy eating, diabetes, and more. Call 800-605-2556 (TTY: 711) and ask for the Health Education Department.

Health and Wellness Website

We know it is hard to stay healthy. That is why we offer you the Care1st Health & Wellness website. It will help you manage your health with tools like:

  • A health coach

You can watch videos on many health topics. Many of the videos are available in several languages.

Member newsletters have useful information on many topics. An online version of the most current newsletter is available in English and Spanish.

Preventive Health Guidelines

Regular checkups, even when you are not sick, are important to maintain your health. They also help your doctor identify health problems early on. The Preventive Health Guidelines below show you when you need your regular checkups:

Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Classes

The San Diego Alzheimer's Association offers classes and workshops online and in-person. Classes are free of charge and open to the public.

Diabetes Classes

Scripps health system offers diabetes classes that are open to the public. The classes cover how to prevent and treat high or low blood sugar, how to eat healthy and exercise, and medications.

Diabetes Prevention Program

Did you know about half of adult San Diegans are in danger of getting diabetes? That is over 1 million people - enough to fill Petco Park 23 times!

If you have been told you have prediabetes or think you might be at risk:

  1. Print the flyer below or request a mailed copy by calling (619) 719-4519.
  2. Have your doctor fill out the bottom part of the flyer
  3. Call (858) 495-5588 to sign up for a free class

Healthier Living with Chronic Conditions Class

The County of San Diego provides a free class called "Healthier Living with Chronic Conditions." The class was designed by Stanford University. It teaches people with health conditions how to live a happier and healthier life. Call (858) 495-5500 to find a class near you.

YMCA Locations in San Diego

The YMCA is a great place to exercise. They offer gyms, pools, and classes. They give membership discounts based on income.

Quit Smoking

Do you want to quit smoking? Get FREE help from the California Smoker's Helpline. The Helpline is based here in San Diego.

A trained counselor will call you to help make a plan that is right for you. They are available weekdays 7am to 9pm, and Saturdays 9am to 5pm.
