and safeguard protected health information (PHI) in
compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. It is our goal that
with continued and necessary help, support and
reminders, there will be wide spread compliance among
our General Agents with the requirements.
WHY IS HIPAA IMPORTANT TO
CARE1ST? IT IS THE LAW! NON-COMPLIANCE PENALTIES INCLUDE
UP TO $25,000 ( FOR CIVIL) PENALTIES AND UP TO $250,000
and 10 YEARS (FOR CRIMINAL) PENALTIES.
In compliance with the HIPAA requirements, Care1st has
issued and approved the Business Associates Under HIPAA
Policy (No. 70.14.9.2.7). In addition, you may find the
Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), Centers
for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) HIPAA Security
Guidance for your reference. You may also visit
