Compliance with Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996

At Care1st, we are committed to ensure that we maintain and safeguard protected health information (PHI) in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. It is our goal that with continued and necessary help, support and reminders, there will be wide spread compliance among our General Agents with the requirements.

WHY IS HIPAA IMPORTANT TO CARE1ST? IT IS THE LAW! NON-COMPLIANCE PENALTIES INCLUDE UP TO $25,000 ( FOR CIVIL) PENALTIES AND UP TO $250,000 and 10 YEARS (FOR CRIMINAL) PENALTIES.

In compliance with the HIPAA requirements, Care1st has issued and approved the Business Associates Under HIPAA Policy (No. 70.14.9.2.7). In addition, you may find the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) HIPAA Security Guidance for your reference. You may also visit www.cms.hhs.gov/EducationalMaterials/ to view regulatory requirements of the HIPAA Security Rule. <Spanish materials are also available by clicking Here>.

Should you have any questions on how to comply with HIPAA, feel free to call Care1st’s Security and Privacy Officer and/or Corporate Compliance Officer at 1-323-889-6638.

To obtain Care1st Confidential and Proprietary Policy on Business Associates and HIPAA, please contact Care1st or your broker representative.

REMEMBER: If SECURITY fails, a breach of CONFIDENTIALITY occurs, and PRIVACY of the individual is breached!

COMPLIANCE IS EVERYONE’S JOB!
