The Pharmacy Department
The Pharmacy Department is responsible for overseeing the consistent administration of the pharmacy benefit for Care1st members by ensuring delivery of appropriate and cost effective pharmacy services. Services provided by the Pharmacy Department include formulary management and drug utilization management (e.g., prior authorization, step therapy, quantity limits). Pharmaceutical care services are provided through contracted health care providers.

The Criteria
The Pharmacy Department uses sound clinical evidence in developing their drug utilization management services. The following is a listing of the clinical resources used in the development of the criteria, but is not limited to:
United States Pharmacopoeia- Drug Information (USP-DI)
American Hospital Formulary Service (AHFS)
Nationally accepted practice guidelines

The Care1st Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
This Committee is comprised of a multidisciplinary team that meets quarterly to review the Medication Formulary and evaluate the quality of pharmaceutical care provided to our members.
